Some personal inquiries on penguins

From the way penguins look like I'd say they've got this serving-like presentation. It's just like they're wearing costumes.
Through the ages penguins have been living in Antarctica.
It's just like they're fullfilling some kind of southpole duty.
But now:
How do penguins know when the time is right to do "business" ?
I say some penguins would actually get fond of eachother and others would get hurt, then loose their purpose and just wander over the southpole like a funny magician.
