1973 edition (smooth's guitar)
|
The Ibanez 2355 is a Jazzguitar that was produced for only a few years in the beginning of the 1970's. Ibanez began manufacturing guitars by copying major brands like Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker. The 2355 is a copie of the famous Gibson es-175. Gibson noticed the Japanese imitations to be so succesfull that they began sueing Ibanez. This resulted in the mid 70's in the famous lawsuit. It even marked the end of the 2355. Finally, in 1977, Ibanez agreed with Gibsons claim. The Elger (Ibanez) factory stopped the production of the 2355 as an exact es-175 copy.... Nowadays prices of these pre-lawsuit Jazzguitars are increasing and occasionally an instrument pops up at an auction or with vintage guitar dealers. Of course, this instrument is still played by a few lucky Jazzguitarists. These guitarists have the flavour for a full and warm sounding Jazzguitar !!
