In a small village south of Seville the Sunday morning starts very calm.

The partisipants have arrived carrying some pigeons. This is the truly amazing part of this sport. You bring your pigeons anywere and they fly and perform at that specific spot.

Two partisipants showing their best birds just before they are released.

The cocks are released and circeling the village.

The cocks are free and searching for the hen soon to be released.

The Suelta lands. Now it is important to watch wich males are really on top of the hen. Here they can make a lot of points touching the hen.

The hen tries to get rid of some cocks by landing on a tree branch.

The birds are collected and returned to the owners.

I specially took a picture of the female just to show that no harm is done. During this Suelta she was wearing a small leather helmet just in case of too strong pecking. The hen is very valuable because without a good hen there will not be a good Suelta.

Last birds are recaptured at several places in the village.

No 2 (that is his name)

Owned by Serafin Acevedo Gordillo.
This bird has made some name:
Kampioen Gomarcal 2004
3e Hermanos Zamora
3e Gomarcal 2005

Angel: again a Serafin bird.

2e veces gampeon Pasoval 2003-2004

Two young guys are showing me the beautifull colors of their bird. Each participant has its own colors. Ownership of the pigeon can be provem by a token with the number corresponding with the pigeons ring. The color markings are registerd on a card with a drawing of the different colors.

Before and after the Suelta their is a friendly meeting at the local coffee house. Stories are being told and the suelta discussed. For us it was a very pleasant, impressive and learning experiance. We are very thankfull about he Spanish hospitality. Muchas Gracias Amigos
