Chapter 35
Sara walked into the breakroom, finding her colleagues discussing her upcoming wedding.
"... and you should see the rings... they are... beautiful!"
Nick looked at Catherine. "You saw the rings?"
She shook her head. "I saw a picture of the rings."
Nick laughed. "Sometimes pictures can be deceiving, you know..."
Sara walked up behind Nick and playfully smacked him in the head. "Not this time!"
"Oh... hey Sara... when did you get here?"
She walked to the counter and poured herself a cup of coffee and one for Grissom. "A few minutes ago."
"What have we got tonight?"
She looked at him and shrugged her shoulders. "How am I supposed to know?"
He smirked at her. "Well, you DO have inside information..."
She shook her head, laughing lightly. "Not about work. He's the supervisor, not me..."
Grissom entered the room and walked towards the counter, smiling when Sara handed him his mug. "Thanks." He surveyed the room carefully. "What's this about 'he's the supervisor'?"
Sara laughed. "Nick asked me about tonight's cases... he seems to think I have inside information."
Grissom turned to Nick, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Nick..."
Nick raised his hands in front of his chest and stood quickly. "Hey... I just thought..."
"No... that's the problem... you didn't think."
Nick looked to Catherine for help. "Hey, Nicky, don't look at me..."
"Sorry, Griss... I just assumed..."
"What's one of the first rules for a C.S.I.?"
Nick looked cautiously at Grissom, clearly confused.
Grissom sighed as he took a sip of his coffee. "Never assume, Nick... never."
Nick nodded wordlessly as his face turned a light shade of red.
"Okay... cases..."

Sara followed Gil to the Tahoe, thrilled that she was working with him tonight. He had kept true to his word, that their personal relationship wouldn't interfere with their working relationship. She
worked with him as much as she did before, sometimes she wished it was more... but she understood.
"Gil?"
He turned to look at her. "Yeah?"
"You know Nick wasn't trying to be..." She searched for the right words.
"An ass?"
She smiled lightly at him. "Yeah... he just... thought that maybe I'd know first."
"Yeah... but you don't."
"Look... if you were involved with someone else, then I'd probably think she'd have prior knowledge too."
He smiled and kissed the tip of her nose. "Luckily for you, I'm not involved with someone else."
She smacked his arm lightly. "Don't you think you were just a little hard on him?"
He sighed and looked into her eyes. He knew she was right. Nick had just caught him off-guard. "Probably." He looked at her and cocked an eyebrow. "Yeah, okay... maybe I was a little hard on him...
I'll apologize to him when we get back, okay?"
"Promise?"
He laughed lightly and opened the Tahoe door for her. "Yeah, I promise."

He found Nick in the breakroom when he returned to the lab.
"Hey... what are you doing?"
"Waiting on Trace." Nick didn't look up.
Grissom sat in the chair across from him. "Nick?"
"Yeah?" He still didn't look up.
Grissom tried to hide his smile. "Look, Nick... I'm... sorry. I didn't mean to come down as hard as I did on you."
Nick laid the magazine he was reading on the table and slowly looked up at his boss. "You know I didn't mean to..."
Grissom interrupted him. "I know. I just... overreacted."
Nick nodded and shrugged his shoulders. "Well... I was guilty of making an assumption."
"Nick... when Sara and I... well, when we told all of you about our relationship, I told you all... that it would not change our professional relationship."
"Yeah..."
"And it hasn't... Sara and I rarely even discuss work at home..."
Nick's eyes darted nervously around the room. "Uh... Griss... I really don't need to hear..."
Grissom laughed. "Look, what I'm trying to say is that... when I hand out the assignments, that's when Sara knows what we have." His eyes locked on Nick's. "It's important to me that you understand
that."
Nick tried to look away, but couldn't. "Griss... I'm sorry..."
"No... I'm sorry. It was natural for you to assume something like that. I was too hard on you. I apologize."
Nick smiled. "Okay..."
Grissom stood and laughed lightly. "Now... get back to work."
Nick returned his laughter. "Yes, sir."
Grissom blushed lightly as he left the room.

He found Sara hunched over a microscope. He smiled. He loved to watch her work. He walked quietly behind her and slid his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Find anything?"
She jumped. "Dammit Gil... don't sneak up on me like that!"
His smile widened as she relaxed in his arms and leaned back against his chest.
"Did you talk to Nick?"
He pressed a soft kiss onto her neck. "Mm-hm... everything's fine." She turned to look at him. "I apologized to him."
She smiled and swiveled her stool around to face him. "Good." She placed a light kiss on his lips.
He pulled back slightly and looked at her. "You know we're at work, right?"
She chuckled. "Yeah, so?"
"Well... we were in my office last time... with the door locked, blinds closed. We're in... uh... the lab right now."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him to her. "That's what I love about you... you're so observant."
"Sara..." Her lips touched his and opened slightly, her tongue gently teasing his lips. He responded to the kiss slowly, but soon found himself with his tongue in her mouth and his arms pulling her
into his body.
Her left hand rested lightly on the back of his neck, the fingers of her right hand were gently combing through his hair above his ear. He could feel himself quickly growing as her nails scraped
against his skin.
He slowly broke the kiss and stood back to look at her. She smiled as she stood as well, running her finger down his chest before she hopped onto the table. Grabbing his hand, she gently pulled him
to her, positioning him between her legs.
"Sara... we can't... not here..." His hands moved to the small of her back.
"Gil... I'm not asking you to fuck me... just kiss me... okay?" Her hands found their way back to his head, pulling him back to her.
"Sara..." He could say no more as his mouth hungrily covered hers, his tongue invading her mouth once more. He could feel her nipples straining against the thin fabric covering them. He could feel
the heat between her legs radiating onto him. He moaned into her mouth.
Their kiss progressed. They had forgotten where they were. They had forgotten that anyone could walk in. They were completely wrapped up in each other. They hadn't heard the footsteps walking into
the lab and suddenly stopping.
"Oh... Jesus... why don't you just find a room somewhere?"
Grissom instantly broke the kiss and jumped back from Sara... as if that would make the intruder think she had imagined what she had just seen.
Catherine laughed when the both of them began to blush heavily.
Grissom couldn't speak. Sara was the first to utter a word. "Cath... we just... uh... were looking at..."
Catherine shook her head and laughed harder. "You two are so cute... like a couple of teenagers who can't get enough of each other... but... you DO know this is the lab, right?"
Grissom cleared his throat and smiled sheepishly at Catherine. Noticing the envelope in her hand, he tried his best to change the subject. "What... um... what do you have there?"
Catherine looked down at the envelope. She had forgotten entirely about it. "Oh... it's a report on our DB... bugs... thought you could help me out with it?"
Grissom nodded quickly. "Yeah, sure." He looked back at Sara and smiled before gently kissing her cheek. "You are in trouble..."
She grinned at him as he walked away. "Promise?"
His laughter echoed in the room as he walked to his office with Catherine.
