My Football Collecting For over ten years I have been collecting mint-never-hinged stamps and sheets on the theme.
Football (Soccer) as I collect it is including all earlier forms of the sport, rugby football and all regional forms of football, such as American Football, Australian Rules Football and many others. Except stamps etc. I also collect cinderella, special postmarks, meter postmarks and postal stationary which mentions or shows anything on these sports. After having collected so many items it became a sport to recognize the players shown. This isn't always possible. In case of players from the Netherlands and Germany so far most recognizable players have been catalogued. An easy recognizable example is shown to the left: Jari Litmanen, whose name is better known than the sport itself in Finland, depicted as a player from Ajax Amsterdam (1995). |

Oranjetoppers Collecting This is a small area within football collecting and contains all stamps and sheets on which anything on the Dutch football is shown.
This starts with photographs from football games with Netherlands players, but also players in the well-known orange and white outfit could belong to this subtheme. Other Oranjetoppers are football stamps on which the national flag is shown, with an inscription or overprint in which 'Holland', 'Netherlands' or 'Pays-Bas' is mentioned and there even are stamps depicting the full national team. A very significant stamp on this theme, of which the existence is hardly known, is this local mail stamp from Bergen op Zoom (1988) to celebrate the first and only win of an international tournament by the national team 'Oranje'. |
