The golden formula
The agegroups of Scouting

The activities that the Scouting Tono-groep offer are based on the ideas of the Englishman Baden-Powell. He thougt you should take children seriously, and by offering them challenging activities, learn them to explore their own possibilities.

By contstantly modernising Scouting, the movement is more populair than ever. More and more young girls and boys become members. This means that Scouting is hot. Naturally, a 16-year old like different activities then a 6-year old. That is why the golden formula of Scouting knows different age-groups.

Ages 5 to 7

Ages 5 to 7
Ages 5 to 7: Beavers Little Scouts and Guides of the age of 5 till 7 are called Beavers. They play in a fantasy-world, including the main actors (the staff) in their own home. Just playing, cutting, painting, or role-playing. The staff joins the girls and boys in their fantasy and keep an eye on them.

Brownies and Cub-scouts are the scouts between the ages of 7 and 11 years old. For them, scouting has a special program: they play in the fantasy-world of Bambilië: a land where the girls (Brownies) and boys (Cub-scouts) can explore everything and find nummerous adventures.

Bambilië is a land full of villages, woods and country-land, where all kind of different things can happen. The staff plays along, helps, stimulates and keeps an eye on the children. This way, there is a new adventure every week

Ages 11 to 14: Scouts and Guides A nice barbeque

Ages 11 to 14
If your age is between 11 and 14, you will find lots of adventures with the Scouting Tono-groep. When you like action or adventure and you don't like to do the same things every week again, Scouting/Guiding might be just right for you!

Every week you meet in our building. From there you can explore nature. For example by doing a treasure hunt, a survival or by building rafts. Or you light a campfire together with your friends and co-scouts and -guides and cook your own dinner on it. Maybe you even want to go canoeing. Some other time you might make a huge drawing on the side of a building, go surfing on the internet or make music.

Ages 14 to 17

14 to 17 years
Explorers take the action one step further. They are a bit older and don't need all the guiding the younger children need. The foreign countries are calling. Exploring a cave, absailing, creating a large video-project, a challenging experiment. These are the things the explorers like.

Organising a camp, keeping an eye on the finances, as Explorer you can do it all. Leaders? Not something for the Explorers. Although there are a few older and experienced Scouts who can help you organise the activities and realise your own ideas.

The call of the Explorers

ages 17 to 23

17 to 23 years
We at the Scouting Tono-groep believe you are an adult at 17. At this age you might become a member of the jongerentak and look beyond the horizon. Pivo's is what we call these members. Together with the other pivo's you will create the most active and imaginative activities. Whatever. As long as they stretch the limits.

You will search for the things you normally would not dream of undertaking. Because the activity would be too big or complex, or just because you need a group to do it. Some ideas? How do you like a combined hike which starts with a canoe, continues with ATB-riding and is finished on foot? Use the video-camera to capture the moments and finish it with cutting the scenes: a dramatic movie is about to be released. Or simply play a game of soccer or go swimming. This becomes a real challenge when you start parasailing, diving or boat-sailing.

What else can you expect with the Pivo's?

From the age of 17: staff

17 years and older: staff members
From the age of 17 you can choose to be one of our staff-members with one of the younger groups. Not an easy task, but surely a real rewarding job. As a theme-character with the Beavers, or together with the Brownies and Cub-scouts to discover the land of Bambilië. Maybe you prefer to go camping with the Scouts and Guides or organising with the Explorers. The golden formula of Scouting is what remains.

Leading a Scouts-troop is not easy. Leading a group is always done together with the other members of the staff-team. Two always know more than one, and with a team of four female and male staff-members, things must turn out right. Scouting also organises courses and the Scouting Tono-groep will provide you with the necessary coaching.
