The BoIs Tavern
Built in 1650 Restored in 1958
The world-famous firm of Bols Royal Distilleries has been producing genever (Dutch gin) and liqueurs in the traditional manner since well before the Golden Age of Amsterdarn in the 17th century. The original Bols distillery was founded in 1575 by a man called Lucas Bulsius who changed his name to Bols. The official name for the distillery became Amsterdamsche Likeurstokerij 't Lootsje, Erven Lucas Bols and it stood at numbers 93 to 113 Rozengracht until 1970 when it moved to Nieuw Vennep. Nicknamed 't Lootsje the complex was rebuilt in 1902 by, among others, the architect H. P.Berlage. The Bols Tavern is situated at the other side of the Rozengracht and houses a restaurant in a building that dates back to 1650, being totally restored in 1958.
